The strong-field and nonlinear x-ray optics group at the Stanford PULSE Institute has immediate openings for postdoctoral researchers in the area of Attosecond Physics in Solids. Our recent observation of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in bulk crystals [Ghimire S. et. al. Nature Physics 7, 138-141 (2011)] has opened up possibilities for studying strongly driven attosecond electron dynamics in solids. The solid-state HHGcould support attosecond pulses and therefore it could be the basis for next generation compact attosecond light source. The PULSE Institute is a Stanford Independent Laboratory that provides world leadership in Ultrafast Science, including Attosecond Science and Strong-field Physics. It is home to several laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art high-intensity mid-infrared laser systems and is in close proximity to the Linac Coherent Light Source, the world’s first x-ray free-electron laser. The researchers take advantage of these unique resources and a very collaborative research environment. Our candidates are expected to have a PhD degree in physics, chemistry, ultrafast laser science or related field with experience in one or more of the following areas: experimental AMO or condensed matter physics, high harmonic generation, and attosecond pulse metrology.

These positions carry competitive salary and benefits initially for one-year term, may be renewable up to three years depending upon future funding situations and performance of the candidates.
