中国科学院上海药物研究所Daniel Falush课题组致力于开发分析大规模基因组数据集的新方法，从历史、功能、医学、生态和进化的角度理解高度重组的细菌物种的遗传变异的原因和后果。Daniel Falush 教授毕业于剑桥大学和伦敦大学学院，并曾在东京大学、马克斯普朗克研究所(德国)和牛津大学工作；在高影响期刊(Science、Nature、Nature Microbiology、PLoS Genetics、ELife)上发表了 80 多篇论文，并曾获得国家自然科学基金资深外国学者人才资助等奖项，自 2019 年以来，一直担任课题组负责人。

因研究项目需要，现诚聘博士后1名，与Daniel Falush教授和Sarah Svensson副教授进行跨学科综合研究，研究细菌生态种的生态位。基因组分析结合实验室表型和分子微生物学表明，副溶血性弧菌的Molassodon生态物种已经进化出一种独特的捕食其他细菌的策略，如我们的预印本https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.06.27.661923v3所述。

本项目旨在确定Molassodon和典型菌株在自然界中的狩猎地点，并利用这些知识更好地表征生态物种适应及其生态驱动因素。为此，我们在上海附近的一个岛屿的岸边进行了一次实地勘察，在那里发现了这两个生态物种。

The Daniel Falush research group at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is dedicated to developing new methods for analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, aiming to understand the causes and consequences of genetic variations in highly recombined bacterial species from historical, functional, medical, ecological, and evolutionary perspectives. Professor Daniel Falush graduated from Cambridge University and University College London, and has worked at the University of Tokyo, the Max Planck Institute (Germany), and the University of Oxford. More than 80 papers have been published in high-impact journals (Science, Nature, Nature Microbiology, PLoS Genetics, ELife), and he has been awarded, for example, an NSFC Senior Foreign Talent grant. He has been the group leader of The Unit of Statistical Genetics of Bacteria since 2019.

Due to the requirements of the research project, we are now seeking a postdoctoral fellow to conduct an interdisciplinary comprehensive project with Professor Daniel Falush and Associate Professor Sarah Svensson to study the ecological niche of bacterial ecospecies.

Genomic analysis combined with laboratory phenotyping and molecular microbiology has shown that the Molassodon ecospecies of Vibrio parahaemolyticus has evolved a distinct strategy for hunting other bacteria, as described in our preprint https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.06.27.661923v3.

This project seeks to identify where Molassodon and Typical strains hunt in nature, and to use this knowledge to better characterize ecospecies adaptation and its ecological drivers. To this end we have established a field site on the shore of an island near to Shanghai, where both ecospecies are found.

Candidates should have molecular microbiology skills and be motivated to address ecological questions in an integrative context. Prior experience in genomics, bioinformatics, fieldwork and microbial ecology would be welcome but are not essential. We sincerely welcome outstanding young scholars with relevant disciplinary backgrounds to join our research team.

1. Those who are about to graduate with a doctoral degree or have graduated within the past two years, and have experience in genomics, bioinformatics, field research, and microbial ecology, or have published SCI articles, will be given priority.

2. Candidates with skills in molecular microbiology or a background in bacterial RNA-seq, genetic manipulation, and pathogenic mechanisms will be given priority.

3. Possess a strong interest in scientific research, the ability to conduct research independently, good critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.

4. Possess good English reading and writing skills
